Science Friday

A while back I read this cool post on how to attach a $5 microscope to my phone and use the phone's camera to view and photograph stuff. I've been wanting a computer-attached microscope for Audrey and Charlotte for a long time - this fit the bill just fine.

I finally ordered the microscope last week and it came today. It took me about 3 minutes to get it set up and then the girls enthusiastically viewed everything we could think of. The photo gallery shows the best photographs they took.

At some point in the future I'll get them a real light microscope, but for now this works great.

Wonderful stuff. I just bought a Swift 1000 Series (used from about 50's 60's) for my Mycology. Cost me with 10x, 40x, and 100x aspects along with 10x wide field eye pieces and included case, and 300 slides and glass covers about 150 delivered. Shop around, you will find deals. There are quite a few technology advances as you must know (being in the field) where they connect up to computers. Old scopes with adaptive USB cameras, or new scopes with LCD viewers and direct to PC capture. Loads to view, lots to see and learn. Great to see the kids discovering the micro world this early in life.
