Art and School Work Highlights

Happy New Year!

We keep a big box in the home office and when the girls bring home interesting work from school or draw something especially good at home we throw it in the box. During the holidays we had time to sort through it and pick the highlights for each girl. I scanned and photographed the pieces and we ordered a photobook for each of them to remember their early artistic and scholastic endeavors.

It was heartwarming to discover that one of Charlotte's favorite things to draw is a heart with her family within.

Audrey is really enjoying 1st grade and does a lot of great work. Her reading is exciting to watch and improves every week, and she's a pretty good speller. She has her mother's artistic eye. The Spongebob picture in this collection was drawn entirely freehand from a paused image on the TV.

We were asking her today about my favorite picture (at left). The teacher gave them a shape on a piece of paper and they were supposed to incorporate it into a drawing. Audrey's shape was the snail shell/wave things in the foreground. The character on the right is feeling worried and imagining what her face would look like expressing that. She is also trying to grab the crown with her second set of (blue) arms. The character on the left is imagining the other character as a one-horned bear, and is smelling her hand.
